Having helped thousands of travelers for nearly two decades, we’ve come up with our own tips and tricks for navigating the sometimes treacherous landscape of travel bookings. Our goal is to make your booking experience as seamless as possible, ensuring your trip is amazing from the second you start planning to the moment you come home. So without further ado, here’s some tips from our Dallas travel agents.
Call your bank
To avoid a fiasco overseas, always call your bank and let them know when and where you’ll be traveling. Many people make the mistake of thinking that just because a bank card can be used internationally, it won’t be flagged for a fraud alert. This simply isn’t the case. It’s better to be safe than sorry, and not everyone has a backup card that can be used internationally.
Check your card benefits
Many cards come with travel benefits — even those that aren’t travel-specific cards (like airline cards). In fact, you could be holding cards with travel perks that you aren’t aware of. Before you make any bookings, check with your credit card companies to see if any perks apply to you. Or, if you’re on the market for a new card, check out the best travel cards to get exclusive upgrades and enough airline sign-on points for a free flight.
Copies count
When traveling, always have a copy of your ID or passport. This is especially true with international travel. Always leave your passport locked in your room, and hold your copy. In the case of an emergency, having a photocopy is always really helpful in expediting your replacement.
Arrive at the airport prepared for security
This ensures you’ll slip by without taking up too much time, which is even more helpful during a time crunch. Come in flip flops or sandals that are easy to take off, and refrain from from wearing jewelry. Take a look at this list of snacks appropriate for security, and here’s another snacks list from USA Today for inspiration on what’s acceptable.
Avoid peak times
Peak travel times are not only more costly, but busier and more inconvenient. You’ll find that with a little flexibility, you can drastically improve your travel experience. If you can, avoid Friday, Saturday, and Monday morning flights. Additionally, visit countries when they aren’t in full peak season. For example, many people flock to Europe during the summer, but going at the tail end of the summer and early fall will save you money and help you avoid busy crowds.
